Summary Of Roy Ashcott’s Theories

After reading Telematic Embrace by Roy Ashcott, I will provide a brief summary of his theories.

First of all Ashcott is merging the areas of art and technology.

He maintains that our social structure mirrors that of an interconnected system of computer networks.

Ashcott views the impact of technology as a switch to a non-local, interweaved form of awareness.

His main idea is that the role of the viewer of the art has a more participatory role in it’s creation.

A good quote to end “When art is a form of behavior, software predominates over hardware in the creative sphere.” – Edward a. Shanken Telematic Embrace A Love Story
